We have changed our hosting. So far everything is OK. The webcams will be back in no more than 48 hours.

The observatory is off the Internet

Due to a massive power outage and then surge some of our network equipment is not functioning. So the observatory is off the internet. We hope to be back online in 3 days..

Site changes

 We've made some changes to the site - a software update and some layout changes. "Latest image" will only show up on the front page now. The "Similar entries" block will NOT display on the first page anymore, but on top right when an article is opened.

After hovering over Mount Everest and the gorges that plunge to the Ganges, you are pulled through the Earth’s atmosphere to glimpse the inky black of space over Tibet’s high desert. So begins The Known Universe, a new film produced by the American Museum of Natural History that is part of a new exhibition, Visions of the Cosmos: From the Milky Ocean to an Evolving Universe, at the Rubin Museum of Art in New York City.
